Glad to know I was of help. However I must add when I replied this
message I was still using Ubuntu 8.10-somehow 9.04 never worked for
me. Since then I have switched to 9.10 and 3G/GPRS set up is even more
trivial than ever. Here is how to to it.

First plug in your modem and as usual it will be detected as a SCSI
ROM. ( I curse these folks for thinking everyone is a Windows user.)

Right click it and click eject.

Go to the network icon in the system tray. ( The icon next to the
speaker icon) and click on it.

Click The New Mobile Broadband option. And the new Mobile Broadband
wizard should appear.

Click on forward.

In the list of countries select China. ( Funny Zimbabwe is not listed
even in the windows wizard you have to select China.)

Click on the radio button that says " I cant find my operator enter manually"

Type "ZW Econet" in the text box and click forward.

Type "econet.net" in the APN text box and click forward.

Click Apply.

You will be connected automatically.

It's a pity I can't provide you with the screen shots. But things have
never been easier.
