Some advice please on how to begin to troubleshoot this issue.<br>

Its a fairly new Lubuntu installation that showed an error message (contents of error report are lost) and now shows a white screen with fine vertical lines. The same screen shows up when the power is switched on and before any booting has commenced, then disappears during the boot process and then shows up again.<br>
<br>
Nothing else shows, no menus, no mouse cursor and nothing seems to respond, not ctrl/alt/f2 etc.<br>
<br>
I was thinking to boot from a live dvd tomorrow to run some checks from there...?<br>
