Hi everyone I have a bit of a problem that I would love help with. I have an acer aspire one netbook which came with linpus linux lite (a modified fedora 8) pre-installed. I wanted to keep this version on the netbook as it runs and boots really fast, but I also want ubuntu on the netbook for more advanced work. The problem is that the netbook only came with an 8GB SSD drive so there was no room to install ubuntu as a dual boot on the same SSD drive as linpus linux lite. I therefore installed ubuntu 10.04 netbook edition onto a flashdrive which was plugged into my netbook. The problem now is that I think during the installation, the MBR of GRUB on the linpus SSD drive was changed to point to GRUB2 on the flashdrive, as whenever I boot Without the flashdrive in, I get a grub error about not being able to locate device UUID: xxxxxxxxxxxx (which i presume is the flashdrive) and it drops to grub recovery console. When I boot with the flashdrive in, however, grub works fine and I am presented with the grub menu from which i can then boot ubuntu, or boot the existing linpus linux lite on the SSD. This is a bit of a nuisance as i dont want to have to have the flashdrive with me at all times and plugged in, just to allow grub to boot into linpus linux lite. Is there any good way to re-write the MBR to point to grub on the linpus SSD so that I can boot linpus without my flashdrive plugged in, but have the option in grub to boot from the flashdrive into ubuntu if i want to. I'm not sure if it makes any difference, but I think ubuntu is using the swap partition of linpus linux lite on the SSD, but I doubt this should affect anything. Any advice most welcome! Thanks Josh
