I have figured it out. The "bad file descriptor" is a gui thing. So I uninstalled network manager from synaptic and installed an older version of wicd in the console and everything went fine. With the help of wicd I connected to the net and updated and installed network manager and uninstalled wicd and after that no more problems. Abrie </BODY> </HTML>
