Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies.

To Morars: Would you mind explaining exactly how to install this ndiswrapper and where I can download it please? I assume I can download it through windows and put it on a flash drive or something?

To Lee: I'm afraid I don't know what the restricted driver manager is nor do I know what Ispci is unfortunately.

To Quitin: I'm in Cape Town not Pretoria so sadly can't take you up on that offer :( I thin I'm running ubuntu 8.10 but there is freedom toaster at UCT, I can check out what version they have there I suppose and reinstall if it comes to it.

Thanks again
Dan

On Tue, Aug 11, 2009 at 4:48 PM, <morars@gmail.com> wrote:

Hi Daniel

I have the same laptop, with the same wifi card, and the same problem. What I do is disable the driver in the driver manager and install the windows driver using ndiswrapper. Works perfectly after that. Btw I've had this problem with this wifi card since I got the laptop about 2 years ago.

Several wireless card will not work without a download that is
restricted in distribution. For example, the Dells with broadcoms need a
bios, and there is a no-redistribution clause in the EULA. So you may
need to download something. Have you tried the Restriceted Driver
Manager to see if it finds it? If so, we need to know what you have.
How about the output of lspci?
