Hi Jonathan

Been through all of that, it plays when I hit the big forward button . Even the file that comes with hardy plays in the config but not during shutdown. I am assuming that the player shuts down before its able to play the sound.

And yes its good to be in a place where the shutdown sound is an issue .

Many thanks.

Cheers
Well, that's a tough one to answer without much information. It's a good
thing at least if you've come to a stage where that's one of the biggest
problems :)
Have you checked what happens when you click on the play button in the
Gnome sound properties? If it's a custom sound file, perhaps you should
check whether the correct codecs is installed, etc.
