Hi Mike

Short answer, no. dd is known as "Disk Destroyer"

You can try testdisk to see if you can recover the partition. Can either
install or use Hirens Boot disk.

Hence when using the dd command make absolutely, positively sure you dd'ing
the right partition.

Stupidly, I forgot to insert the usb and still had my external drive
mounted on /dev/sdb.

Is there any way of getting my data back?
