[ubuntu-za] Graphical connection to a text server

A query: I have an old HP server that I've been playing with. I've put
ubuntu 16.04 server on it. As it's got an archaic graphics card (AMD Rage
XL PCI (rev 27). I need to use text mode, which is fine because I plan on
using it as a headless server (primarily as a backup device and/or a print
server).

But I'm playing around with it, and trying to discover new and exciting
things:
Is it possible to remotely connect to this thing graphically? ie: use my
laptop's graphical capabilities? Ideally, I'd like to install graphical
software on the server (perhaps an xfce environment) and then remotely
connect to it. I'd then have an xubuntu-like view of my server, even though
the server can't run in graphics mode.

I've got Webmin working, but I'm not altogether happy with it.

Is anything like this possible, or am I wasting my time? Please remember
that this is purely an intellectual exercise.

Many thanks,
Mike
