[ubuntu-za] Wireless device disappears in laptop

I know it's been a while since this thread was active, but I have a
possible solution, although it is, as yet, untested by myself.
Today I installed WICD network manager on my Dell laptop, running 16.04.
So far it's working really nicely. Yes, the interface is not as pretty
as the Unity network manager, but at least I can see the available
wireless networks in the pull-down dialogue.
If any of you want to try this, here is a link to the process I used -
I'll keep you posted on how things progress over the next few days.
