If you want to stick within the Ubuntu family, look at Ubuntu Mate. Its an
official distro, runs of Canonical resources and tied to the same schedule
as regular Ubuntu.

Mint I understand hold back certain updates and upgrades, specifically
security ones, for whatever reason.
