My 10c worth, boot from live iso. dvd or usb. choose the try option
install testdisk, then run testdisk and once it is through everything it
does choose the write option. i have had a few i/o error drives working
again . Good luck

With an I/O error on your drive, it usually means it is time to get a
new one. Perhaps also good for all of us to consider getting UPS devices
to allow safe shutdown
