Hi Jan,

14.04 will be out on 17 April ( Thursday this week), support is until 2019

Could be your Long Weekend project, install 14.04

I have been using it for aprox 2 months

I don't have an SSD, but support for things like SSDs, should be better

I don't know if you like Unity, I do, and it has improved

Don't know what apps you use, here are some apps to install in 14.04
shutter - feature-rich screenshot program
classicmenu-indicator - drop down menu - creates an Ubuntu Icon top right
glabels - label, business card and media cover creation program for GNOME
gimagereader - A graphical GTK frontend to tesseract-ocr - OCR

local SA places to download 14.04 from
http://mirror.ufs.ac.za/ubuntu-cdimage/
http://ubuntu.mirror.ac.za/ubuntu-release/
ftp://ftp.is.co.za/mirrors/ftp.ubuntu.com/releases/
http://ftp.wa.co.za/pub/ubuntu/ubuntu-cdimage/releases/
There are others

William

Subject: [ubuntu-za] Ubuntu best version

Your experienced comments please:

I have reverted to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS after some bad experiences with 12.10. My 12.04 is still doing fine and support is until 2017, so the question is perhaps premature, however, I am planning to transfer to a SSD (solid state drive) shortly and would appreciate some feedback to help me decide whether I should remain with 12.04 or upgrade to a newer version, especially considering that the next LTS version has been available for some time.

Many thanks,

Jan
