Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't see how that would make a 
difference. The 12.04 install DVD (nor USB startup disk) won't boot on 
this device. The format of the drive doesn't have an affect at this stage.

I thought it might be that the hardware is not supported, but normally 
Ubuntu would give you a warning in such a case, it won't simply not boot 
at all. Also, were talking about a Atom D525 Dual-core processor, that's 
pretty recent hardware, unless 12.04 doesn't support it, which would be 
pretty strange.
