[ubuntu-za] NVIDIA weirdness, manual install okay with recovery-kernel but not boot kernel

Here is a bit of weirdness,

I have NVIDIA 295 manually installed. Working fine with recovery-kernel,
resume boot, but no joy with actual boot kernel.

Only guess is it has something to do with the runlevel installation script.

Any ideas?
