I'm afraid that the just because one machine from one manufacturer
worked well, that's often not the case for other machines. Some new
chipsets are problematic, others less so. You're best looking for people
successfully using Linux on a particular model, or at least the same
chipset.

The above doesn't apply to Lenovo so much as other manufacturers.
ThinkPads are very popular amongst developers and Kernel developers, and
almost always work well with Linux.

I know of some Ubuntu-ZA members who bought Fujitsu Siemens because they
found a model that worked flawlessly. I've also had good luck with them
in the past, but I don't think that's any good guarantee one way or the
other.
