Hi Micheal

1. Can I run Ubuntu on top of MSWindows.

You can run Ubuntu in a virtual machine in Windows, however I would not
recommend that. I would recommend installing Ubuntu side by side with
Windows (aka dual booting.)

2. Do I need to partition my HD.

If you choose to dual boot, yes.
If you remove windows, and only have Ubuntu installed, then no.

3. Can I remove Windows and run on Ubuntu

Yes

4. What is the difference between Ubuntu and Linux.

Linux is just a small part of a operating system called a kernel. This
is something that you are not going directly interact with, but as it is
a very important part of the os, many people refer to the whole os as
Linux, even though it is made up of many other parts.

Ubuntu is a collection of many pieces of software that are needed to
make a complete os, including Linux.

5. I have installed OpenOffice 3.1.

OpenOffice is included in Ubuntu, in the default install.

6. If I remove Windows will Ubuntu offer me am email platform eg Outlook.

Yes.
Evolution is included in the default install.
Thunderbird can be easily installed via the "Ubuntu Software Center"

7. Will I still require Antivirus software.

No - one of the advantages of not running Windows.

8. Can you provide me with a contact person in Cape Town.

I have cc'ed this message to the Ubuntu-ZA mailing list, which is where
the South African community chats. There are many active members from
CT, and I'm sure one of them will volunteer to get you a cd, and help
you to get set up.

Regards,

Gary
