[ubuntu-za] DVDs in Karmic

Hi, 

Hope someone can help. 

While it is true that I'm running a relatively old notebook (Compaq
nx9000 - 2.2GHz CPU & 1GB RAM), I did not experience these problems in
either Windows (which I ditched relatively recently) or in Ubuntu 9.04,
which I used prior to my Karmic upgrade. 

Firstly, when I play a DVD (as opposed to any video file on hard drive),
MoviePlayer stops, starts and generally hiccups its way through the
movie - if it doesn't completely freeze at some point. I've tried
reinstalling MoviePlayer. I've also installed every extra add-on and
codex that seemed to relate to the issue - with no success.

Secondly, some DVDs - seems to be random, although always the same ones
- play without sound, although they do still fall foul of the above
problem too.

Any ideas.
