Another thing is to look for conversions of your favourite software, for 
example VBA-M is a conversion of Visual Boy Advance (The Gameboy Advance 
Emulator) or certain engine conversions like ScummVM that can allow you 
to play games written in those engines so you can play those old Lucas 
arts Adventure Games and many other Adventure Games.

Some people even try using Virtualation software (like Qemu) to install 
a copy of windows that runs in a virtual desktop within their ubuntu to 
play certain games or use programs that refuse to run on WINE. Many 
people make a virtual FreeDos install like this to play old dos games 
that don't work in DosBox too.
