Hi All,

Here is a site in the Uk to look at, they are doing basically what we are trying to do.

Open Source Schools - http://opensourceschools.org.uk/

Open Source Schools is here to share information about open source software in schools. Our aim is to help you decide whether open source software might offer benefits for learning, teaching, engaging pupils and parents, managing information and resources, or school administration.

Hi All,

Hilton Theunissen - how about a CD with demo or reduced versions of the stuff from the commercial vendors in ZA, that works on Ubuntu, Kubuntu or Fedora, that can be downloaded from ww.schoolforge.org.za

also, is www.schoolforge.org.za going to be a place where we can download things like Wikipedia for Schools, or any other school related CDs/DVDs. If not can we possibly get TENET http://mirror.ac.za/ involved with hosting the CDs/DVDs, we will have to speak to them first.

Hi Sudhashen,

Here's why: We're Ubuntu <http://video.linuxfoundation.org/video/1209>
http://video.linuxfoundation.org/video/1209.

Also Ubuntu is an experience. You learn about Linux through Ubuntu. Then
when you able to deal with total freedom you make your own distro.
However, if you start off with total freedom, it's unlikely you would be
able graduate to the point where you actually have a community. Also,
one runs the risk of painting yourself into a corner. Then you're the
only one with your problem, and nobody to share it with. I love freedom,
but ubuntu is better.

PS: Caught a glimpse of Kongoni running KDE4 the other night, pretty
impressive.
