[ubuntu-za] Firewire card

I am having a bit of a problem finding a firewire card. All the firewire
cards which I have seen list MS operating systems as system
requirements/support. Will these cards work with Ubuntu Karmic? I have a
core 2 Quad 2.33 Ghz PC - Gigabyte G31 Motherboard. These cards cost
around R170-R200. I need to know if they will work before I buy. Can
anyone help out here please?
