With regards to wine, have a look at their appdb:
http://appdb.winehq.org/
check for the game you would like to try to use and read what other
people's experience has been.

By the way, the stuff that synaptic downloads is all stored
in /var/cache/apt/archives so you could simply copy that from the
"server" to each of the other computers if all else fails...
