Well, as an experienced Internet user of many years, you should be
well aware that it has very little to do with just the subject, but
the message ID as well. Replying to an existing mail with a new topic-
even when changing the subject line will break threading (users of
Gmail will quickly notice this) especially when threaded view is
enabled in your mail client. It is bad netiquette, and the people who
generally point it out aren't over-sensitive, they are simply trying
to keep the list a decent place and make communication as efficient
and simple as possible for all users.
