I have not tried the cell phone option, but I just (re-)installed my
ADSL using Ubuntu and it worked like a dream. Well after I put in the
right password anyway!

There are too many FUD stories about Linux going around I am afraid.
Largely fuelled by the FUD experts I am sure.

Seriously - I am not a Linux expert by any means. I have a background
(20 years ago) in operating systems, but I have long out-served my
expertise there. In fact I am a pretty normal "Mom and Pops" user -
except that I have the will to fight some of these problems to death.
(And I suppose that programming Python is not typical of a "Mom and
Pops" user!) But I know that Ubuntu is easy to install and to manage and
would recommend it to most of my friends.

The gap that we need to fill is - as a community? - provide that first
level of support to get the general user up and running with his/her 10
year old computer and 5 year old modem.
