[ubuntu-za] Modem works with Dapper but not with Edgy

First off, let me just say that friends don't make friends use Windows.

I disagree. You need computer literacy, not Windows skills. You use
applications, not an operating system. If you learn to use OpenOffice
and Evolution at home, transferring those skills to a different office
suite or mailer won't be hard.

The only time you need to learn how to use the operating system is if
you want to work in IT, in which case it would be seriously to your
advantage to learn Linux and get certified. There are enough clueless
yobs with MCSE's in the world. Get an LPI and get employed.

Why only technically-minded people? My mother uses Linux. She's much
happier on it and so am I since I gave it to her - support calls have
dropped from a couple a week to virtually nil.

That said, I did configure her machine before I gave it to her. But
you'd do the same if you were giving a non-technical person Windows -
you wouldn't just give them an install disc and a bunch of drivers and
wish them good luck.
