Hiya,

I have a nice stack of Edgy CDs, in order of most to least:
* Ubuntu 6.10 for your PC
* Kubuntu 6.10 for your PC
* Ubuntu 6.10 for your 64-bit PC
* Edubuntu 6.10 for your PC
* Kubuntu 6.10 for your 64-bit PC

At present these are available in Durbanville, but people who have
indicated they can distribute in the southern suburbs can ping the list
when they have collected from me...

Mail me directly to arrange a time to collect them.

Regards
Morgan

Good day,

I'm looking for a copy of Ubuntu 5.10 for an older machine I'm rebuilding
for my daughter.
If anyone in the Northern suburbs has a copy please drop me a note.

Tried to downloaded it a couple times and the download failed somewhere
towards the end.
With my monthly bandwidth almost depleted I took a trip to the Brackenfell
Pick and Pay in hopes the toaster would be back in place. As of today
there still isnt a toaster in Brackenfell.

So if anyone in the Northern Suburbs has a copy of 5.10 they could share
with me it would be greatly appreciated.

  Thanks a bunch,

  Rich

Rich

I don't have 5.10 but I have original CDs (1 x Installer & 1 x Live
CD) of Ubuntu 5.04 and if you want them they're yours. I'm in JHB.

Justin

Yes, why 5.10, especially considering that the End Of Life for support
for this distribution has just been announced a few minutes ago?

Just because it's an old machine doesn't mean it has to run old versions
of the software?

Yes, in fact, newer version of Xubuntu would be faster...

I agree with that however Xubuntu is pretty feature-less if you're
used to Ubuntu and the Gnome environment and that might be a driving
force to use an older version vs. a newer Xubuntu.

Hi,

A meal is way too complicated for the first time - the politics involved
in who eats what, who is willing to pay what, and how many people are
actually going to show up (because you have to book a restaurant) is too
much. So, drinks it is.

I'm going to go with the Waterfront, since everybody knows where that
is. There's a place right in the middle, near the big flagpole, called
San Marcos, which does nice-ish cocktails, and isn't too hard to find.
I'll make/find/put up a map in a bit, if nobody has any better
suggestions or objections. (And if you have an objection, you'd better
have a better suggestion.)

> When?

Saturday, 21st April, 2pm onwards. If people want to move on to dinner
somewhere, they can organise it over the course of the afternoon face to
face.

Can we have a rough idea of who is interested?

I doubt an old version of Gnome would be very much faster at all.

Anyway, the real point here is that security updates and backports and
things are going to cease for 5.10 in April, it's been end-of-lifed -
better to go for the LTS version and keep getting updates?
