Same problem. Eventually I remembered that terminal complained....
gkrellm: Exiting because multiple instances option is off.
so I activated multiple instances but did not realise that now there is
a problem.
Now I de-activated multiple instances .. still pop-up to allow you to
choose which type of terminal you want to run and then there it is.
