[ubuntu-za] Ubuntu - How to install hardware?

Hi,

In MDK there is MCC and in Suse there is Yast with the appropriate
selections.

I do not seem to find this in ubuntu - gone through list many times 
- may be it is there but I do not seem to see it.

I would like to install my scanner.

Kindly please some pointers.
