If you have a laptop and don't want to schlep yet another peripheral 
around, then getting the driver is the best bet.  I've used this driver 
several times and it hasn't been a problem.  Just go to:

http://conexant.com/support/md_driverdownload.jsp

(you might need to navigate there on the conexant site and agree to some 
terms & conditions...).
