The Go Open Source campaign is planning to host a number of SFD events
around the country, currently looking at Pretoria, Jhb, Durban, Cape
Town, possibly PE (depending on budget). For each of these, the location
would be a shopping centre and would encompass an installfest section
and a general demo and advocacy section (where CDs, stickers, brochures,
balloons, etc.) will be handed out.

While this is a Go OS sponsored event, it is not exclusively for Go OS
and its partners. In fact the efforts of Go OS on SFD is to provide a
platform for existing OSS groups to do what they do best. Go OS is
essentially providing venues, marketing and marketing materials for the
day, and we hope that LUGs, the Ubuntu LoCo team, and other enthusiastic
groups and individuals join us to make the day a success.

Having said that, there may indeed be value in having other similar
events in the same cities. The Go OS locations are intended for mass
market outreach, hence we have targetted shopping centres. If other
groups are trying to reach a different market or focus on something more
specific (such as education), it may make sense to host a separate event
at another venue.

We should try to plan carefully beforehand so that we do not thin
ourselves out too much.

My 2c,
Adi
