If you could file a new bug ('ubuntu-bug xorg') there's at least a slim
chance of it getting fixed for 12.04 proper. I've tried to beat some
sense to the above bug but people still insist on commenting there..
'bisecting' with mainlike kernels will help to isolate the fix:

just file a bug against the kernel ('ubuntu-bug linux'), since the bug
should be valid for quantal too.
