's/http/s/.*/#&/' first s is erroneous. It just comments out all lines by prefixing with # :)
'/http/s/.*/#&/' should be correct

I fixed the renamed xorg package today, now installing
xserver-xorg-lts-backport-quantal is sufficient to pull in everything.

Does it survive a 'sudo restart lightdm' ?
