System was basically fine, except that one program doing graphics would
put garbage on the screen, seemingly typical for the X.Org incomplete
ATI driver, as per stuff I'd read.
I downloaded & apt-installed from the console the fglrx package [the
driver from the hw manufacturer], (see apt-cache search radeon at end)
which proceeded to:
apt-get install fglrx
The following extra packages will be installed:
dkms fglrx-amdcccle linux-headers-2.6.32-30

Upon reboot, the keyboard is inactive. Even pressing caps lock doesn't
cause the caps lock let to come on. So, I can't log in at the KUbuntu
Reboot into safe mode, try to determine anything unusual, & at some
point during some reboot, I saw some text mode messages about some USB
thing not being proper, or identified, etc.
I booted into safe mode root, & did:
apt-get remove fglxr
Now, It will boot up fine again, but with the same graphics sw problem.
So, was there more I was supposed to do?
Is that documented someplace?
Is this a known problem?
What's the fix?
Also, I note in the Ubuntu-x team email list, the below message,
so is there more needed to install fglxr properly in 10.04 than merely
"apt-get install fglxr?":
