The dontzap package you're talking about is just a command line tool based on 
X-Kit. The Kubuntu settings panel relies on it. If you install dontzap, the 
settings panel will allow you to disable or enable dontzap from a GUI.

Speaking of the Gnome UI, it's almost complete. In these days I hope to 
complete the implementation of the changes suggested by Bryce and then I will 
ask Matthew Paul Thomas' opinion on some UI details which I still don't like.
