Here's my take on the ten worst problems we have for the -intel driver,
judging from triaged bugs in LP currently:
### CRASH, POST-RESUME ###
340328 [965] X crash after suspend/resume
(We get many, many bug reports about problems following
suspend/resume, this is just a typical example. I suspect many
of these are kernel bugs actually, but I don't have a reliable
mechanism for differentiating them...)
### CRASH, VIDEO PLAYBACK ###
351869 [945] Crash playing video
346267 [945] Crash playing video, if XVideo used
352760 [865] Crash playing video, unless NoAccel
347527 [830] Crash playing video
### BLACK SCREEN, PIPE-A UNDERRUN ###
311895 pipe-A underrun gives black screen
--> freedesktop-bugs #19304
### FREEZE, USER SWITCHING ###
348428 User switching gives freeze (double free) in
drm_intel_bo_unreference()
See also LP #335999, possibly related
--> freedesktop-bugs #20956
### FREEZE, POST-RESUME ###
339091 [945] Screen freeze a few minutes after resume
--> freedesktop-bugs #20520
### PERFORMANCE, GENERAL REGRESSIONS ###
303011 Performance regression in 2.5.x, 2.6.x
--> freedesktop-bugs #16835
339555 Performance regression with compiz on Dell D820
342923 [945] Sluggish graphics on HP NC6400 laptop
### PERFORMANCE, FIREFOX/JAVA ###
238629 High CPU load with java in firefox, unless switch to XAA
### ARTIFACTS, QT4.5 ###
338669 Painting artifacts with Qt4.5
### WARNINGS, DRM ###
353049 "*ERROR* Unknown parameter 6" warning message
### UXA, SAVEUSPLZ ###
And #10 are all the UXA bugs that have been reported. There's a bunch,
so probably easiest to just reference launchpad:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bugs?field.searchtext=UXA+bug
Note that I mentioned above that this is just looking at already-triaged
problems. There well may be some more serious issues, that just haven't
received sufficient triaging attention yet.
Part of the motivation for this list is to give a cheat sheet of common
issues for duping purposes, for tomorrow's bug triagers.
In an ideal world, we'd ensure all of these are resolved before
release. But given we have a schedule to keep, we would be doing well
to at least knock a few of them off the list.
For now, a good start would be to ensure every one of these has an
upstream bug report associated with it. If you can reproduce one of the
problems listed above, please help by placing a bug report upstream!
