totally agree on the importance of more notice, but we actually do have
some dates for UDS
http://old.nabble.com/UDS-11.04,-11.10-and-12.04-dates-td28811471.html
11.04 UDS - October 25-29 (2010)
11.10 UDS - May 9-13 (2011)
12.04 UDS - October 24-28 (2011)
This time I didn't get sponsorship and I don't have time to make
arrangements and justify the cost of funding my own way there. I am
smack in the middle of the privileged demographic, stuff that is hard
for me is going to be very hard for others. Making sponsorship decisions
early is important because last minute flights and to a lesser extent
hotels are more expensive. What would be great would be announcing well
in advance the airport to fly to. In fact with enough notice I probably
wouldn't bother applying for sponsorship and would just book a cheap flight.
Another obvious influence on diversity is where in the world UDS is
held. One in Asia or Africa would I think help diversity and make it
more of a global event than a Western event. In fact, Mark taking UDS
back home to SA would be awesome.
