I am starting a new thread as its harder to wade through folks who
responded to volunteer.

In case I was not clear, non-subscribers spam posts are discarded.
People who are subscribed have always been posting freely anyway, so
its very unfair to say 'ill post from any address i like and list
admins have got to be on irc 24/7 to approve them".

In all my years of participation in various linux communities being on
IRC 24/7 has never been a prerequisite to contributing, so I hope that
is not what is being implied here. IMPO, that would be unfair to a
lot of women out there who have the time and inclination to
participate but balk at being asked to be on irc 24/7. For a lot of
women real life can suddenly get very hectic and I hope UW is more
than that and is able to _listen_ and yet encourage more women.

Again, apologies if that is not what was being implied but some hacker
norms can be very discouraging, even if unintentional. I hope you all
understand the spirit behind allowing new members to come forth is an
opportunity to increase diversity, and get more women to start out.

my zero paise,
