Most likely the kernel module (driver) requires special parameters and
udev/hal doesn't know that (yet).  You might want to file a bug so that
the developers know that this needs fixing.  (But first try if it's
fixed in Ubuntu 8.04; you can use a live-CD to test it if you don't want
to upgrade/install it yet)
