[UbuntuWomen] launchpad icon?

I did not know the "+" represents a womens group ( I am not a FLOS
developer, I'm unsure who will be viewing this icon at Launchpad).
I presume "+" was chosen as resembling the female gender symbol
(see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Female_symbol )
But since the icon is a graphic and therefore any symbol/image could be
included, why not use the female gender symbol itself rather than
the "+" ? I presume many more people would recognise it.
