My problem with this is:

"At what point do we stop?"

Should we ban all names that are derogatory to women, men, homosexuals,
religious groups, political groups, young people, the elderly, babies,
toddlers,
etc, etc, etc?

If that were to happen, then wouldn't people be complaining about the
lack of free
speech, and their right to use whichever alias they wish?

Keep in mind, this is not another person calling someone a name - this
is a user
deciding which name they would like to be known by - chosen before they even
got into the irc channel.

Consequently, I think they should, within reason, be able to have
whichever nickname
they wish, if it's not in use, and is not highly offensive. That being
said, where to draw
the line is an interesting issue.
