Hi,

This is my first post to this list; I subscribed a couple weeks ago (?)

I'm a 60 year old male in Minneapolis, MN, USA who appreciates
lists that explicitly try to exclude the macho male aspects of many
lists. I am a moderately knowledgeable _user_ of
Unix and the Internet since about 1990
Linux since about 1999
Ubuntu since 2006
I'm still daunted by many aspects of Unix / Linux; I felt more
comfortable with minimalist system like FORTH that I used in the early
days (1980's). I've never learned much C programming.
I specialize in running Mailman mailing lists.
Much more about me can be found via links in my siganture.

Current problem:

I'm using Ubuntu v 6.06 Linux and Firefox 2.0.0.7 (I plan to install a new
version of Ubuntu in the next few weeks.) I tried to install Flash but it
did not seem to work. Recently Flash started working - maybe as a result
some routine upgrade.

Lately I've been playing with webcams etc. Here's a page about this:
http://fholson.cohousing.org/pix/webcams.htm Some give me the "download
plugin" message for Java Runtime Environment

For example: http://web.mst.edu/~wes/webcam.html

With Synaptic I checked and java-gcj-compat (Java runtime environment
using GIJ) ver 1.0.56-0ubuntu1 was installed but I reinstalled it.
I still get the same "download plugin" message at the site above.
Suggestions?

Fred
