Mariwal,
Please join the ubuntu-women mailing list if you wish to discuss this
further, I have included the list on this email.
According to your launchpad page[0] for this project:
"This is a custom Ubuntu package for gilrs, All things that girls want:
conpiz-fusion, beautifull wallpapers, xscreesaver, etc.
Please, Add: beautifull wallpapers, themes, pink and rose things, Usplash
whit flowers, Sound Packages, etc. All things that girls want. To get
involved, just help me to make these things above and make a Live "pink"
Ubuntu CD. Thank You. Mariwal"
I expect that you're trying to be helpful and have very good
intentions, but I think you will find that such a project is going to
be controversial. Women and girls are just people, we have different
interests, not all of us like "pink and flowers" and saying that "pink
and flowers" are "All things that girls want." is not true. Some of us
want to do programming and software packaging with a really slick dark
background and theme on our system. Compounding stereotypes about
girls and women does little to encourage and empower us.
So my first suggestion is not assume that all girls like "pink and
flowers" - remove the "All things that girls want." sentence from the
launchpad description. My second suggestion is to fix the spelling and
grammatical errors, which I understand might require a fluent English
speaker.
All that said, I don't see a problem creating a "Pink Ubuntu" and
there certainly are girls (and boys!) out there who would be
interested in using it, and it might bring people who like such things
to Ubuntu - which is a great thing! So why not change the project name
to something like pink-ubuntu?
