[UbuntuWomen] Hello World

[Raphael Corsoski]

Hi there!  Geeky greetings aside, I'd like to introduce myself since I'll be
subscibing to the list.

My name is Raphael Korsoski (a male name, 'case your wondering), I live and
work in Sweden at present. I've studied computer science and international
relations, currently I'm working as a sysadmin for a windows only network
(advocacy here somehow reminds me of dadaism).

I've studied social movements for some time and specifically how the
internet are changing the very nature of such movements. Somehow coming full
circle I'm now looking to get into free software in some fashion.

I'm very concerned about the biased nature of computing when it comes to
gender.  From an ideological perspective (if it means anything to you) I'm
probably aligned with post-colonial feminists, although I rarely use that
term to describe myself.

As such, seeing that Ubuntu has a measly 2% or so of female developers, I'm
keen on keeping an eye on how that develops and keeping an eye open for
opportunities to help.  I'm usually very sceptical of affirmative action,
but it's rather clear that direct and resolute action is needed to level the
playing-field.  From my perspective, surely there must be some structural
deficit that keep women from getting involved?

I'll probably keep to myself abit, being comfortable in the role as
observer.  Looking forward to some interesting reading!
