Definitely no waste of time! Welcome to the list and the community,
and yes, sticking with it has rich rewards. Its a process of learning,
and to be honest, our mistakes are often our greatest teachers - so
don't be discouraged if you make them!

I have been using Linux for over 11 yrs or so now, and I *STILL* make
them:) But sorting it out does give a great sense of satisfaction -
totally unlike what I get when I fix  a friend's windows computer (and
yes, I try to persuade them to try ubuntu - noone leaves without an
Ubuntu cd to try, and yes, it's been successful - grass roots advocacy
ftw!)

I personally really enjoy reading all the stories of women introducing
themselves. Keep them coming, I say:)
