HI all , I am getting a bit long in the tooth to still be doing
video at age 87. You might take this fact in consideration. I think
maybe take that into consideration that in giving advice. Last fall I
bought an HP Gaming computer with windows and had a hell of a battle
figuring out the Bios to install Ubuntu I am Presently doing 1920 x
1280 video. I have always used Dell boxes and so am familiar with
the bios. If anyone can offer advice can give advice on a Computer
with similar bios that is more friendly to Linux I would appreciate
it. I have an old optiplex Dell 780 that is getting flaky. I guess
it could be rebuilt but not by me. I am not up to that theses days.
The Hp I am using is a Gaming machine. But maybe I don't need that, I
guess a machine that will do what I want to do would fast enough. All
suggestions on a new or rebuilt box would be helpful.

My box is a good one for Linux, bought it of a Linux provider
https://www.linuxnow.com.au/ that way all the hardware worked out of
the box, good choice of distro's too, I have updated but never
needed to reinstall at all
My old Dell XPS with an i5, 8GB ram and linux was a little under
powered to use lightworks for video editing. I didn't want to spend a
fortune on a high end i7 and tons of ram so I bought an "End of Lease"
Lenovo work station with 2 - 8 core Xeon, 128 GB ram and Nvidia Quadro
K5000 graphic card for about 1500$. It was a 2012? model a
years old at the time; but it still had a lot of bang for the buck.
I installed Ubuntu Studio and have been using it for about 5 years now ,
it's not like a Ferrari more like an 18 wheeler nothing slows those 32
threads down. :)
