I'm back again after a lot of work and investigation. The
situation is the same as before... See Firefox problems for the
history.

1. The problem is that I can't connect to many sites using Flash.
example BBC.com
2. Shockwave is strongly suspected, Firefox disables the Shockwave
plugin and says there are security risks and it is out of date.
3. I had Mint/Mate version 16 and reinstalled it using Mint/Mate
17.1 (the most recent release).
4. The version of Shockwave was the same old one causing the
problems. I had problems updating it so I installed Ubuntu /
MATE.

I thought the problem would go away but NO DICE! It's still
there.

Some other things I discovered.

1. The version of Shockwave for the new version of Ubuntu/Mate
14.04.1 is Shockwave 11.2.202.424. This is the same version that
I think causes the problem. Firefox has disabled it.
dual boot with Windows 7 and I also am having problems connecting
to Windows update??? Could it be that I have a Windows malwaret?
If so, can it affect Linux? (I don't think so.) My problems with
connecting to Windows update might just be due to me trying to
connect during a busy time of day. 11:00 AM EST. I'm going to
try later tonight.

There was an update to windows 7 that led to not being able to
download any more updates. The update
was

none; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);">KB3004394.
Look in your updates and see if you have installed this update. If
so uninstall it then try to
update again.
this Shockwave version the most up to date version? Perhaps A FF

the latest version, how can I get the latest version? I looked in

Adobe has said that it will not be updating flash for Linux. When I
got into a problem because of flash with
FF I switched to Chrome and haven't had a problem since.
