Knock on wood, I haven't had the need since the 9 floppy Slackware days. Paying attention to firewalling is the Linux biggie... virus's not. Fear the script kiddies trying to gain root access instead. If you're overly concerned you can turn on all sorts of file protection schemes. SELinux was developed with the assistance of the NSA. Give that a whirl, it's in the repos. If someone intrudes on your machine, jackboots and Dobermans are automatically airlifted by black helicopters to beat their brains out, while delivering them to a cell at Gitmo, bruised and bleeding.
