OK. Let me clarify my query, localhost is both the apache webserver and the mysql server ? That is what puzzles me. LAMP programming technically means nothing. So you are going to work on some web sites. GREAT! Just install mysql. You dont have to worry about the ip address or host name. Once you have apache set up you just go to localhost or 127.0.0.1 or your computer name to access your site. You might look at phpmyadmin or mysql-admin to mysql administration.
