a newer version of Ubuntu with an installed system. An example of this
would be going from Ubuntu 7.10 to Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. To avoid damaging
your running system, upgrading should only be done from one release to
the next release (e.g. Ubuntu 9.04 to Ubuntu 9.10) or from one LTS
release to the next (e.g. Ubuntu 6.06LTS to Ubuntu 8.04LTS).
This is what I did, 8.04 LTS to 10.04 LTS and yes, I did read the documentation.

<br>
Which means you did this : "Because Kubuntu 8.04 was not an LTS
release and has passed its end of life, direct upgrades to Kubuntu
10.04 LTS from Kubuntu 8.04 are not supported. Please follow the
directions for <a
href="https://help.ubuntu.com/community/KarmicUpgrades/Kubuntu/8.04">upgrading
Kubuntu 8.04 to 9.10</a> first, then follow the directions above
for upgrades from Kubuntu 9.10."<br>
<br>
You upgraded fist to 9.10... then to 10.04?<br>
