About virtualization technologies... and things like audio : 1) Make sure your VMware Player is configured to enable audio for the guest 2) Make sure you selected a virtualized audio hardware that is compatible with the guest (for example in VBox you can specify AC97 or SoundBlaster 16 as an audio device exposed to the host - check in VMware what you have, and try different variations). Since you are also using VBox, why use VMware? VBox is fine. Make sure you have the latest 3.2 version (it's really nice) and that you have installed the GuestAdditions which enable proper hardware sharing between host and guest. But 3.2 adds direct support for absolute pointers (enabled that in "System" for the guest, and by turning on USB support) which enable direct MOUSE sharing without capturing the mouse in VB even if you don't have GuestAdditions for that guest (for example when running MacOS in VBox since 3.2 supports EFI booting - note that at this time you can only virtualize MacOS if the host HARDWARE is a Mac).
