</div>As noted in the reply to your previous message, you are probably using a<br>
limited version of vim (vim.tiny). ls -als /etc/alternatives/vi should<br>
give an indication about which vi implementation you are using. You<br>
should note that the ubuntu repository includes several alternatives<br>
(vile, nvi, vim, elvis, levee). All with their strong and weak points.<br>
